I do these videos weekly and this week it was hard to get away from the U.S. election, in which Donald J. Trump won the presidency while losing the popular vote, just as George W. Bush did in 2000. In 2012 when there was just the possibility of Obama being reelected by the Electoral College while losing the popular vote Trump tweeted “the Electoral College is a disaster for democracy,” adding later that “we should march on Washington and stop this travesty.”
So yeah, politics! No fun. But on the upside this week’s 52 Sellout features Dixieland jazz which is a ton of fun! And I enjoyed putting the track together, putting a capo on the 5th fret of my acoustic guitar to make it sound more like a ukulele, and even breaking out an honest-to-goodness siren whistle (I do so love those and rarely get to use mine).
And as I was doing the vocal for the tune and was trying to deliver some sort of ragtime/dixieland performance I realized I was just doing an impersonation of Michigan J. Frog, the cartoon frog who sings “Hello my baby, hello my honey, hello my ragtime gal!” So I went with it.
