The NERC in the U.K. probably won’t use the name “Boaty McBoatface” for its new research ship but that doesn’t mean we can’t turn it into a Saturday morning cartoon, complete with this theme song!
Upbeat and energetic theme songs are a favorite of mine and I’ve had the pleasure to create them for the St. Reverend Jen, whose theme song I wrote the music for, and for the animated series Breakup Girl which aired on the Oxygen network. The Boaty theme song was a lot of fun to put together, I got to use my groovy horn sample library from Native Instruments, I had to come up with a lot of rhymes for “face,” and I tried to imagine what the show and character of Boaty McBoatface would really be.
The more I thought about it, the more I realized it’s a great idea for a show: a cute boat reinvents itself and becomes a famous, environment-studying ship, taking kids on adventures all over the world to learn about science and nature. It would be like Dora the Explorer, but not annoying.
So if anyone out there produces such a show, I have the theme song ready to go. Enjoy!
